The Ha Giang loop culture nature villages tour is a 4-day round-trip by motorbike, Easy Rider, or private car — departing from Ha Giang City and returning to Ha Giang City at the end of Day 4. This Ha Giang 4 day loop tour covers the full classic circuit of Ha Giang Province with a genuine cultural emphasis: real ethnic minority homestays, weaving villages, a historic palace, and two of Vietnam’s most spectacular landscapes.
Over four days, the route passes through Thon Tha and Ha Thanh Tay villages, Quan Ba Heaven Gate, Lung Khuy Cave, Nam Dam Dao Village (Night 1 homestay), Lung Tam hemp weaving, the Hmong King’s Palace, Lung Cu Flagpole (Vietnam’s northernmost point), Dong Van Old Quarter (Night 2 hotel), the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass, the emerald Nho Que River through Tu San Canyon by boat, and finally the peaceful Tay village of Du Gia (Night 3 homestay) before returning to Ha Giang City on Day 4.

Ha Giang – Thon Tha – Quan Ba Heaven Gate – Lung Khuy Cave – Nam Dam Village (100 km)
After breakfast in Ha Giang City, we depart by motorbike or car on the Ha Giang loop culture nature villages tour. The first stops are Thon Tha and Ha Thanh — two beautiful Tay minority villages set among rice fields, traditional stilt houses, and a nearby waterfall. This is a gentle start: walk the paths, admire the fields, and get a feel for traditional Tay village life before the road begins to climb.
We continue to Quan Ba District, passing through jungle and scenic terraces before ascending to Quan Ba Heaven Gate — a viewpoint at over 1,000 metres that opens onto one of the most photographed panoramas in northern Vietnam. The Fairy Twin Mountains rise from the Tam Son valley below. We stop for photos before descending to have lunch in a local ethnic minority village.
After lunch, we enter the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark and visit Lung Khuy Cave — one of the most beautiful limestone caves in Ha Giang, filled with stalactite formations and cathedral-sized chambers. We then descend to Tam Son and continue to Nam Dam, a traditional Dao ethnic village where we arrive around 5 PM. Dinner is home-cooked by your hosts. After dinner, try the local corn liqueur — known affectionately as “happy water” — and chat with the family around the fire.
Nam Dam – Lung Tam – Hmong King’s Palace – Lung Cu Flagpole – Dong Van (130 km)
After breakfast at the Dao homestay, we head toward Lung Cu Flagpole — Vietnam’s northernmost point. Along the way, we stop at Lung Tam Village, a White Hmong community where women weave traditional fabric from locally grown hemp using techniques passed down for generations. This is one of the few remaining places in Vietnam where hemp weaving is practised as a way of life rather than a tourist performance.
We continue to the historically significant Hmong King’s Palace (Vúa Mèo) — a remarkable complex of courtyards and carved halls inside the Dong Van Geopark, built in the early 20th century for Hmong chieftain HỨ Chọng Vù. Lunch is served in a nearby village.
After lunch, we visit Lo Lo and Giay ethnic minority villages near the Chinese border — some of the most distinctively dressed communities in Ha Giang Province, with colorful traditional clothing and wooden longhouses. The road then climbs to Lung Cu Flagpole at the very tip of Vietnam. Standing here, looking north into China and south over the karst plateau, is one of the most emotionally striking moments of the entire route.
Late afternoon, we arrive in Dong Van Old Quarter — a cluster of 19th-century stone houses and French-era buildings set among dramatic limestone mountains. There is time to hike to the viewpoint above town for sunset. Dinner and overnight in a hotel.
Dong Van – Ma Pi Leng Pass – Nho Que River – Meo Vac – Du Gia
After breakfast in Dong Van, we begin the most visually spectacular section of the entire Ha Giang Ma Pi Leng Pass tour. Ma Pi Leng Pass is carved directly into the cliff face above the Nho Que gorge — a road that has been named the most dramatic mountain pass in all of Vietnam. Views extend hundreds of metres down to the turquoise ribbon of the Nho Que River and across a vast panorama of exposed limestone massifs. It is completely unmatched anywhere else in the country.
At the foot of Ma Pi Leng, we descend to the Nho Que River for a 1-hour boat trip through Tu San Canyon — one of the most iconic experiences on the entire Ha Giang Nho Que River tour. The canyon is one of the deepest in Southeast Asia. Vertical limestone walls rise on either side as your boat drifts through emerald water in near-total silence. The boat ticket is fully included in your tour price.
Lunch in Meo Vac — a bustling market town known for its Sunday ethnic market, set in a deep valley surrounded by karst peaks. After lunch, we continue toward the peaceful Tay minority village of Du Gia. Du Gia sits beside a river in a wide highland valley, surrounded by traditional wooden stilt houses and forested mountains. The Tay people are known for their colorful woven textiles and deeply communal way of life. Dinner and overnight in a Tay stilt house together with the host family.
Du Gia – Du Gia Waterfall – Minh Ngoc – Ha Giang City (~110 km)
After breakfast at the Tay homestay, we begin the return journey toward Ha Giang City. The first stop is Du Gia Waterfall — a beautiful cascade of crystal-clear mountain water set in dense forest. Swimming is possible depending on the season and weather. This is a quiet, serene moment before the road begins.
We take the scenic return route toward Ha Giang, stopping at a Hmong minority village for a brief cultural walk and interaction with local residents. Lunch is served at a local restaurant in Minh Ngoc Village — a relaxed stop in a beautiful highland setting before the final stretch back to the city.
We arrive in Ha Giang City at approximately 4–5 PM. This marks the official end of the Ha Giang loop culture nature villages tour. We offer an optional shower and rest at our office or guesthouse before you continue your journey. Whether you take the night bus onward or stay another night in Ha Giang, we can help with arrangements.
This tour is a full loop — it departs Ha Giang City and returns to Ha Giang City. Timing may adjust slightly for weather or road conditions. The Nho Que River boat ticket and all entrance fees are fully included. Bring sufficient cash VND from Ha Giang City — ATMs are very limited along the route. Your guide will advise on current road conditions and any permits before departure.

What Travelers Are Saying
Travelers from:
"What a special few days — the Ha Giang loop was without a doubt the highlight of our entire Vietnam trip. Ma Pi Leng Pass is genuinely indescribable. Seeing the Nho Que River from the pass, then riding down and boarding a boat through the canyon — that sequence alone is worth the trip."
"Our guide was excellent — knowledgeable, safe, and passionate about the region. Staying with the Dao family in Nam Dam was one of the most genuine cultural experiences I've had anywhere. Lung Cu Flagpole at the northernmost tip of Vietnam was deeply moving. Highly recommend this 4-day format."
"Day 1 through Thon Tha Tay villages to Nam Dam Dao homestay set the tone perfectly — real, quiet, and beautiful. Then the two riding days including Ma Pi Leng, the Nho Que boat, and Du Gia waterfalls made this the best four days of my entire Vietnam trip. Already recommending it to everyone."
"You will not see as many tourists as other places in Vietnam — that alone makes it worth going. Lung Tam weaving village was a highlight I hadn't expected. The Hmong King's Palace is incredible. Dong Van Old Quarter at night is unlike anywhere else in Vietnam. Completely exceeded expectations."
