Who We Are

A trekking company with
roots in the mountains.

Ha Giang Trekking Tour was built from a straightforward conviction: the most important part of experiencing northern Vietnam is who you walk with and how slowly you move.

We are not a general-purpose travel agency. We do not run city tours, airport transfers, or beach packages. We plan and guide trekking experiences in Ha Giang Province — one of the most dramatic and culturally rich landscapes in Southeast Asia.

Our team is local. Our guides are from the communities you will visit. Our routes have been walked hundreds of times and refined over years of working with travelers from the US, UK, Australia, France, Canada, and across Europe.

We keep groups small, communication direct, and itineraries honest. What we offer is not a product — it is an experience designed around your pace, your interests, and the land we know best.

The Landscape

Ha Giang is unlike anywhere
else in Vietnam.

The northernmost province of Vietnam is a study in extremes — raw limestone karst plateaus, deep river gorges, cascading rice terraces, and a patchwork of ethnic communities that have lived in these mountains for centuries. The Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark alone covers over 2,300 square kilometres of world-class landscape.

"In Ha Giang, the trail is the destination. The villages are chapters, not stops. The mountains ask you to look carefully."

For trekkers, Ha Giang offers something increasingly rare — routes where you are genuinely away from the tourist infrastructure, walking through working villages, sleeping in local homestays, and eating meals prepared by the families whose hillside fields you passed that morning.

The landscape shifts dramatically from season to season. In September and October, the rice terraces turn amber and gold. In March, the buckwheat flowers bloom across the plateau in deep pink and white. In winter, mist settles into the valleys and the mountains acquire a different, quieter character.

Why This Company Exists

Ha Giang deserves more than a rushed itinerary.

The Ha Giang Loop became famous quickly. With that fame came a particular kind of tourism — motorbikes doing the circuit in two days, checking viewpoints from the road, and moving on. The landscape got the clicks. The culture got the background.

We exist for travelers who want the other version. For those who want to slow down, leave the road, and actually walk into the mountains. To sit with a H'Mong family in the evening. To understand what they grow, how they build, and where they go on market day.

Trekking in Ha Giang is not about conquering the terrain. It is about giving yourself enough time and enough presence to receive what this place has to offer. We design every route with that in mind.

Our Approach

What makes the difference
on the trail.

01

Trekking-First Route Design

Every route we offer is designed primarily for the walking experience. We choose trails for their terrain quality, village access, and cultural depth — not because they are convenient to photograph from a road.

02

Guides With Lived Local Knowledge

Our guides grew up in Ha Giang Province. They know which trails flood in the wet season, which family runs the best homestay in Lung Cu, and how to navigate a market day with a group in tow.

03

Authentic Village Access

Because our guides have long-standing relationships with H'Mong, Tay, and Dao communities, we can walk into spaces and share meals that most visitors simply cannot access through standard operators.

04

Meaningful Pace, Not a Checklist

We plan itineraries with enough time in each location to actually experience it. We would rather spend an extra hour in a village than rush to a viewpoint. You will move slowly, and it will be worth it.

05

Direct, Honest Communication

Before you book, we discuss your fitness level, your expectations, and what is realistically possible. We do not oversell your route. If a trail is too demanding, we tell you and adapt accordingly.

06

Practical Support Throughout

From the moment you arrive in Ha Giang to the moment you leave, we are reachable for questions, logistics, and changes. Travel in northern Vietnam requires flexibility — we are built for it.

Your Travel Style

Experiences for the traveler
who wants more.

Our treks attract a particular kind of visitor — curious, considered, and open to the slower rhythm that Ha Giang demands.

🥾

Adventure Trekkers

Those who come to Ha Giang specifically for the walking — multi-day routes, mountain terrain, and trails that require real effort and reward accordingly.

🎭

Culture-Focused Travelers

Visitors who care deeply about the communities they pass through — the weekly markets, the textile traditions, the languages and rituals of the mountain peoples.

📷

Photographers & Visual Travelers

Ha Giang's light, landscapes, and people make it one of the most photogenic destinations in Vietnam. We know when and where to be for the right moments.

🌏

Solo Travelers & Couples

Whether you are walking in a small group or planning a private trip, we build itineraries around individual preferences, not a one-size-fits-all schedule.

How We Travel

Responsible travel
is not a policy.
It is how we work.

Tourism changes places. In Ha Giang, the challenge is significant — communities here have carefully preserved ways of life, and large, indiscriminate tourism is a genuine threat to that. We take this seriously.

  • Small group sizes that do not overwhelm the spaces we enter
  • Cultural briefings before every village visit — what to expect, how to behave, what to ask permission for
  • Local homestays and suppliers over large outside operators wherever possible
  • Communities are not treated as photo subjects — they are hosts, and we travel accordingly
  • Guides fairly compensated, with locally rooted employment at the core of our model
"The best outcome from any trek is that the village was glad you came — and you left something better than footprints."

Common Questions

Questions before you book.

Serious travelers ask good questions. Here are the ones we hear most often.

We are a trekking-first specialist, not a general travel agency. Our routes are designed around the walking experience — the trail, the terrain, the people you meet along the way. We run small groups (maximum 8), use guides from local ethnic communities, and move at a pace that allows genuine connection rather than rushed sightseeing.
Not necessarily. We offer itineraries across a range of fitness levels, from easier village walks to more demanding multi-day mountain treks. During the booking process, we discuss your experience level, physical condition, and preferences to recommend the most suitable route.
Ha Giang rewards visits year-round, but the most celebrated seasons are September to November, when the rice terraces turn gold, and March to May, when buckwheat flowers bloom. December to February brings cold, quieter trails with a different atmosphere entirely. We are candid about what each season offers and help you choose based on your priorities.
Yes. Our guides are from Ha Giang Province, many from H'Mong, Tay, and Dao communities. They have deep, lived knowledge of the land, trails, and culture — the kind of insight that cannot be learned from a guidebook or a training course. They also hold VNAT (Vietnam National Administration of Tourism) certification.
We keep group sizes small, brief travelers on cultural etiquette before village visits, use local homestays and suppliers where possible, and avoid practices that reduce communities to backdrops. We aim to be guests who contribute meaningfully to the places we visit.
Absolutely. We regularly plan private and custom treks for solo travelers, couples, families, and photography groups. Tell us your dates, fitness level, and what matters most to you — we will build something that fits, without a template. Reach us directly on WhatsApp or email to start the conversation.
All of our guides communicate comfortably in English and have experience working with international travelers from the US, UK, Australia, France, and Europe. Communication is never an issue — and their local knowledge adds a dimension that no standard guide provides.
Ha Giang is approximately 300 km north of Hanoi — about 5–6 hours by bus or private car. We advise on transport options for every group size and budget, from overnight sleeper buses to private transfers. We include this information in every pre-trip briefing.
